What is Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), also called menopausal hormone therapy and estrogen replacement therapy, is an effective treatment for menopausal symptoms, which can also be a preventative measure for osteoporosis. But before we talk about HRT, we’ll address menopause. What is it and what happens during menopause?

What is Menopause?
Menopause is simply the natural progression of a woman’s cycle. It marks the end of her period. Menopause is diagnosed after a woman has gone 12 months without a menstrual period. This happens in stages, and prior to the year “milestone” the period may be inconsistent in frequency and duration, signaling pre-menopause. It typically occurs in women in their 40s or 50s, however the average age is fifty-one in the US

Menopause marks a natural decline in reproductive hormones. During the transition to menopause the body begins to use energy differently, fat cells change, and weight gain may become an issue even if it had not been before.

During menopause, estrogen levels fall, resulting in uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and night sweats. Fortunately, modern medicine provides a pathway to experiencing menopause in a more pleasant way

Hormone Replacement Therapy | HRT
Back to HRT! HRT increases estrogen levels that the body no longer produces, providing symptom relief. Additionally, testosterone replacement therapy in women helps patients achieve success in reducing symptoms such as fatigue, depression, and can also increase libido. Testosterone Replacement Therapy contributes to building stronger bones and more fat-free muscle mass.

The Facts:

1.Systemic hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats.

2.Hormone Replacement Therapy comes in several forms including pill, patch, gel, cream, spray and pellets therapy. These “implants” are injected under the skin (buttocks), consistently release small, physiologic doses of bioidentical hormones just like those found normally in your body providing optimal therapy.

3.There are different types of HRT. Some have only one hormone, while others have two. Combined estrogen and progesterone therapy may reduce the risk of colon cancer. There is a distinct difference between synthetic hormones (Premarin and Medroxyprogesterone) and bio-identical which are also considered natural hormones, (Estradiol and Progesterone) which are the type of hormones that we use at our clinic for hormone replacement and optimization.

4.HRT is the most effective treatment for premature menopause when periods stop before age 40. Those with premature menopause are at a higher risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, anxiety, or depression.
