Our in-office procedures include:
A skin abscess, also called a boil, is a bump that appears within or below the skin's surface. It is characterized by a painful collection of pus, usually caused by a bacterial infection.
An abscess drainage is the treatment used to remove the infected fluid (pus) as soon as possible in order to remove the threat of further infection as well as remove any unhealthy tissues necessary for proper healing.
A cyst is a small, slow-growing, noncancerous bump beneath the skin. There are many types of cysts. Unlike epidermoid cysts, which originate from the skin, and unlike pilar cysts, which come from hair follicles, true sebaceous cysts are rare and originate from your sebaceous glands. Epidermoid cysts may develop as a result of trauma or blocked glands in the skin. They're most commonly found on the face, neck, and trunk. A doctor can remove a cyst if it's painful or infected, or if the appearance is a concern.
Moles are growths on the skin that occur when pigment cells called melanocytes, grow in clusters. Moles are very common. Most moles do not require treatment but can be removed when:
Removing a mole is a simple procedure and usually requires only one office visit. Depending on the size and location of the mole it will be accomplished either by surgical excision or a surgical shave. As a precaution, the removed mole is sent to pathology to ensure no cancer is present.
You should have a health care professional check your moles if they look unusual, grow larger, change in color or outline, or change in any other way.
Skin tag removal is a common treatment option that can be performed in a short amount of time. While skin tags tend to not cause patients any health-related issues, many prefer to have them removed because they are either:
Wart removal involves using one of the many treatment modalities available to remove warts. These treatments include freezing, minor surgery, and topical creams. The procedure used to remove warts will depend on the severity of warts and will be determined by Dr Gamboa. Proper and prompt wart removal is important because warts are contagious and can spread quickly.
Nexplanon is the birth control implant that goes in the non-dominant arm. It’s just as effective as the pill, but without the daily hassle and lasts for 3 years. This small, thin, and flexible arm implant is placed in the office discreetly under the skin on the inner, non-dominant upper arm by your healthcare provider. Removal of Nexplanon involves a minor surgical procedure by your healthcare provider and can be performed in the office through a small incision in your arm where Nexplanon is located.
The vulva is the outer part of a woman's genitals. A vulvar biopsy is a test to check for vulvar cancer or other skin diseases. During a biopsy, a local anesthetic (lidocaine) is injected and small pieces of tissue are taken from areas of skin that look abnormal.
A Joint injection is a common procedure for the treatment of inflammatory joint conditions, such as gout, tendinitis, bursitis and for those who are experiencing chronic joint pain from osteoarthritis. Because having joint problems can make it difficult for someone to perform their everyday functions without being in discomfort and/or pain, joint injections are often recommended as a form of pain management.
Trigger points are painful “knots” in your muscles. They form when a muscle can’t relax. Sometimes you can feel these knots when you rub your muscle. A trigger point injection consists in injecting small amounts of anesthetic and steroid into the trigger point to help soothe muscle pain, especially in your lower back and neck. It also can be used to treat fibromyalgia, tension headaches and myofascial pain.
A ganglion cyst is a noncancerous, small, and usually painless lump often on the tendons or joints of wrists and hands. The cause of ganglion cysts is unknown. If the cyst is causing pain or interfering with joint movement, aspiration maybe recommended. In this procedure, the surrounding area is numbed with a local anesthetic, and the cyst is punctured with a needle, so that fluid can be drained.
